Week 5 Discussion – How Have You Practiced Initiative and Results Driven Skills
Week 5 Discussion – How Have You Practiced Initiative and Results Driven Skills in Your Own Life
During job interviews, potential employers often ask candidates to describe a time when they have demonstrated their initiative and/or results-driven skills. Let’s practice answering this question!
In paragraph 1, describe a time at work, home, or school when there was a problem, and you took the initiative to solve that problem and to seek results on your own.
In paragraph 2, explain how the process went and describe the solution that you developed.
Before you post, remember these rules:
Professionalism: Using personal examples within discussions is encouraged in the course. However, please remember to share only appropriate topics that you might also share with a colleague, potential employer, or professor. Ask yourself, “Would I share this example in an interview?” If the answer is no, refrain from sharing it here.
Respond with respect: Respond to at least one learner in the class by offering thoughtful ideas and respectfully asking follow-up questions. This is a learning community where your peers and myself will learn and grow from reading your posts. Be mindful of your tone when responding to the main prompt and your peers.
Proofread: While discussions are less formal than papers, this is an academic environment, and your writing will be assessed. Please be careful to check your grammar/spelling.

CLASSMATE POST-I was working as a CNA in a nursing facility and there were a lot of tasks to be accomplished throughout the day. I genuinely felt overwhelmed with my workload. I immediately had to examine my work assignments and prioritize them by importance and how long each one would take. I knew that getting things done was important but so were the integrity and quality of my work. I needed to be efficient with my time as well as productive. I used these skills of initiative and results-driven. I became very confident in getting my tasks done. I was able to care for the clients and do it properly while still having time to get the charting, cleaning, and stocking done as well as other things on the list. I have to say this worked out well and to my advantage. Instead of asking anyone how to get all this done, I analyzed the problem and searched for the solution. I immediately felt amazing that I was able to solve the situation I faced without having to ask for help and get it done the right way. That situation has enabled me to be more growth-set-minded and accomplish things in my daily life.
