URL 1: Since Willard Small (and the character’s name in the movie ‘Willard’ wasn’t an accident) invented the rat maze, animals have been an important part of psychological research. There was a time when you couldn’t become a psychologist unless you’d spent time in an animal lab and I have scars from rat and lemur bites to prove it—really. But animal research is on the way out. This week, I want you to argue the contrarian view. I want you to find a URL and make a case supporting animal research in psychology.
URL 2: After John Broadus Watson got drummed out of psychology, he joined the J. Walter Thompson Advertising Agency, which started a marriage between psychology and advertising that still exists today. So this URL is a relatively easy one – what is the CURRENT (let me repeat–CURRENT!!) relationship between psychology and advertising? And yes, you can get a degree in psychology and advertising, so for goodness sake, please don’t send me any web pages from colleges advertising their I/O programs, their Psyc and Marketing degrees, or their Consumer Psyc degrees. although that might not be a bad place to start your research.
