Purpose
The purpose of creating a play area activity plan is for students to demonstrate skills in planning developmentally appropriate activities that foster social, cognitive, physical, emotional, language, and creative development. Students will also demonstrate their ability to identify ways in which the environment functions as an essential component of the curriculum.
Instructions
Students will come up with a learning goal they would like children to reach. What “big idea” do you want the children to explore? Think about the materials, props, and space that will be needed to best facilitate children’s exploration to help them reach the learning goal. Use the activity questionnaire sheet to help you brainstorm ideas.
Plan a play activity for one of the following play areas: Dramatic Play, Block Center, Art Center, Science/Sensory Center, Math Center, Library Center, Writing Center.
Please use the following template for your activity plan. The Play Area Activity Plan will include the following:The learning area in which the activity will take place
Age range of the children
Subject to be learned
At least three learning objectives, including an explanation of how these objectives will be met
At least three developmental objectives, including an explanation of how these objectives will be met
List of material required
Explanation of of how the play activity will be prepared and set up
Explanation of how the activity will be introduced
Explanation of how the children will use the materials to meet the learning objectives and developmental objectives
Explanation of how children will be evaluated in meeting the objectives
The activity must be developmentally appropriate and support children’s developmental needs: physical, social, emotional, linguistic, & cognitive.
