Supervision contracts are written documents that specify expectations and obligations of both supervisors and their trainees. Academic training programs, clinical sites and licensing bodies all use supervision contracts and their terms to protect the supervisor, trainee/associate and other parties involved in the clinical training experience (i.e. university practicum, private practice, agency, educational setting, etc.). You have been tasked with developing a supervision contract for a clinical setting. In this assignment, identify the clinical setting for which you are developing a supervision contract, describe your plans for contracting and evaluating your trainees and then develop the supervision contract for this setting addressing the following areas: Philosophy, preliminary information Pragmatics/logistics Methods for supervising Responsibilities and expectations for the supervision experience Agreements regarding keeping supervisor informed about legal, clinical and professional issues Confidentiality Contact information and emergency procedures Potential supplemental requirements that are relevant to your style/approach of supervision, setting or other policies Due process and how potential conflicts or disputes will be managed Duration of the contract and criteria for termination Other relevant information that may be unique to your site, population or clinical practice TIPS: Review the assignment rubric and use the rubric categories as headings for your contract. Make sure all rubric categories are included because you get points or no points based on whether the item is included in your contract. You can use the contract examples in your texts and reference materials as the foundation of your contract and modify it based on your clinic setting.
