Section 1
ASSIGNMENT RATIONALE:
[You need NO references in this section to support your personal reflections.]
Your studies are leading to your being employed in a variety of industry areas, likely in Tourism and Hospitality. While an understanding of operational processes in any organisation is essential, higher levels of employment require greater understandings of management and leadership skills and dynamics.
To become a good manager, leader, supervisor, or work colleague, you need to first be able to understand your own personal characteristics. All of us have many personal strengths (areas we can build on), and weaknesses (areas we can improve on). These intrapersonal and interpersonal skills make us unique.
This assessment activity first asks you to think, reflect on, some of your own qualities (interpersonal and intrapersonal skills). By learning to reflect on and analyse your own behaviours, you will become a highly skilled manager able to better lead and manage people in challenging and dynamic work environments.
The premise, or logic, behind individuals better understanding themselves is that ‘only by understanding yourself first can you better learn to understand others’. This is a common, but useful, view of much commentary in this area.

Section 2
ASSIGNMENT RATIONALE:
You need 5 good quality academic REFERENCES in each part of this section to support your reflections. (4 parts = 20 references in total minimum.)
Your studies are leading to your being employed in a variety of industry areas, likely in Tourism and Hospitality. While an understanding of operational processes in any organisation is essential, higher levels of employment require greater understandings of management and leadership skills and dynamics.
Work environments are full of various interpersonal interactions where managers, leaders, supervisors, and workers engage in activities to achieve both operational and strategic goals. Sometimes these interactions are challenging and difficult to understand.
This assessment activity asks you to think, reflect on, an environment in which ‘YOU PERSONALLY’ observed management and leadership interactions (they may have been ‘good’, ‘bad’, confusing, etc). This environment may have been where you work, or worked, sporting clubs, social groups, or at a university or school you attended. You need to think about a time when leadership and management skills were displayed by the people involved and the strengths and weaknesses that occurred.
By learning to reflect on and analyse dynamic interpersonal work situations, you will become a highly skilled manager able to better lead and manage people in challenging and dynamic work environments.
