Part 1: RTI Pathway to Support Struggling Readers
As you have learned in previous coursework, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a framework to provide targeted support to all students. It involves a collaborative approach using data-based decision-making to design a support system for the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development of the whole child. To provide academic support, we respond to intervention (RTI) within the MTSS framework. The approach originated as a way to prevent reading failure for the vast majority of students, through the application of three tiers of support: Tier 1 (Primary Prevention), Tier 2 (Secondary Prevention), and Tier 3 (Tertiary Prevention).
Use an online infographic of your choice to create a one-page infographic to share with families explaining the RTI tiers as a pathway to support students who struggle with reading.
In the infographic, include the following:
Describe Tiers 1, 2, and 3.
Identify student proficiency in each grade level K-3 which would qualify for Tiers 1, 2, and 3.
Select one grade level and provide two examples of reading strategies to support learning during each tiered level.
Provide a link to at least one resource for each tiered level that provides information to assist families in supporting RTI at home.
In addition to the above, your infographic should be organized with graphics embedded to support the language presented.
Part 2: Summary
Write a 250-500 word explanation to support what you have selected within the three tiers. Your response should include scholarly support on current best practices for students, with and without exceptionalities, who struggle with reading within the three tiered levels.
Support your infographic with 2-3 scholarly resources.
