Step 3: Do some research on the topic of effective communication and health education and/or health literacy education for those within the community you are using for this project.
People learn different ways and different mediums appeal to different demographics depending on age, background, education, etc. This research will help you better identify the most effective medium for communicating and educating your chosen community.
Questions to Consider as you Research:
What health literacy/education approaches have been tried in the past within your community or a similar population?
Were they effective? What made them work?
Were they ineffective? What was the issue that made them less effective?
What initiatives have been used in the past to inform your community or a similar population, outside healthcare?
Were they effective? What made them work?
Were they ineffective? What was the issue that made them less effective?
What variables effect your chosen communities reception of information?
What role does culture play in your chosen communities reception of information?
How can you leverage culture in creating your product to increase effectiveness?
Compose a discussion board post sharing your thoughts, findings and conclusions on effective ways to educate and inform your chosen community including what barriers exist, what has been effective and ineffective in the past and what mediums you are considering to bypass those barriers. Remember to explain your rationale about why your chosen medium will be effective.
Your post should be a conversational, informal sharing of thoughts and reactions. Consider including what surprised you, what did you wonder as you were researching, etc. You can also share websites and articles that you found to be a valuable resource in examining the topic. Your post can also be a synthesis responding to the questions above; however it does not need to speak to all the research questions above.
For this discussion, you are required to post a reply to one of your peer’s post. Any thoughts about their plans? Any suggestions that you can provide to assist them? Hearing someone else’s thoughts can help make your own thinking evolve. This is an informal sharing of ideas, you are welcome to cite sources but it is not required.
