The project should cover the following content:
1) Describe the illusion: How do we perceive it, versus what is physically present in the illusion? How does it work?
2) Perceptual organization: Explain how at least three Gestalt principles and/or depth cues are present in your illusion.
3) Theories of perception: Explain how you could apply at least one theory of perception (e.g., bottom-up vs. top-down processing, unconscious inference, regularities of the environment) in your illusion.

Visual Illusions Project Instructions
perception involves forming a mental representation of the world around us—we always view the world from our own perspective, and that perspective can be tricked! Visual illusions are a way that the mind can be tricked into perceiving things differently from how they are actually presented. In this project, you will write on and use the simultaneous contrast illusion, and explain some of the perceptual principles underlying that illusion.
you will cover the following content in your project:
1. Describe the illusion: How do we perceive it, versus what is actually physically there in the image? How does the illusion work?
2. Perceptual organization: Explain how at least three Gestalt principles and/or depth cues are present in your illusion.
3. Theories of perception: Explain how you could apply at least one theory of perception (bottom-up vs. top-down processing, unconscious inference, or regularities of the environment) to your illusion.
Your project MUST include a reference list with citations for content that is not originally your own ideas. You should include a citation for the source of your illusion image/file, in addition to citations for information about the Gestalt principles, theories of perception, etc. Please include the reference list with APA-style full citations for these sources somewhere in your project submission.
Here are the steps to complete the project:
1. Find an image/video/gif that exemplifies your illusion and is NOT identical to any images/videos shown in the course materials or textbook provided in the files. Alternatively, create your own example of the illusion!
2. Complete your project, covering the three main criteria discussed earlier:
1a. Describe the illusion
2a. Apply at least three Gestal principles and/or depth cues to the illusion
3a. Apply at least one theory of perception to the illusion
Consult the rubric in the files for this project to determine how you will be graded, and how you should structure your project accordingly.
