This is not an essay and only needs to be answered in homework format. I needs to have citations directly from the work and it also needs to be at least 500 words.
We are not expected to read more then 5,000 words from any given work to complete or homework.
Prompted form the professor:
Hi, everyone. In the readings folder you will find a link to an excerpt in Narrative Magazine from Saidiya Hartman’s award winning Losing Your Mother. I’ve also posted an interview with Dr. Hartman where she defines the qualities of “critical fabulation,” which is what she calls the methodology she invokes in so many of her historically-inspired writing projects. First, I’d like you to use the interview to define critical fabulation for your classmates. Do your best to describe the methodology in a way that we can all understand. Thereafter, I’d like you to read Hartman’s article from Narrative Magazine and note when Dr. Hartman invokes her methodology. More specifically, select two examples from her writing that exemplify critical fabulation and explain why these are good examples. Lastly, do you think this methodology strengthens or weakens the credibility or art of the historical record?
