During World War II, Hollywood told Americans what America was fighting for, always under the influence (and control) of the federal government’s office of war information. Hollywood also showed how films may be used to serve contemporary political goals, and how Americans saw themselves during the period in which the United States became a world superpower. Similarly, in 1947 during The Cold War, which began with the Russians overthrowing the Czar and ultimately ended with the unraveling of Russia in 1991, the government took several steps to attempt to quiet the voice of Hollywood. Upon completion of this assignment, you should be able to: Construct an argument in defense of your position on government involvement in film making.
