STEP 1.Choose a topic and data with two-samples to analyze.
Choose one topic from U.S. Census Bureau website: https://www.census.gov/topics.htmlLinks to an external site.. Some examples are income, education, household size
Find the data for your topic at https://data.census.gov/ find a variable from the topic.
Choose two group that you are interested to test the hypothesis on and gather each group’s “Estimate” and “Margin of Error” from the U.S. Census table. Here’s an example of a census table:
STEP 2. State your research question and setup your hypotheses. An example might be “Is the number of females 25 years and older with a Bachelor’s degree different from the number of males 25 years older with a Bachelor’s degree?” .
STEP 3. Conduct your two-sample hypothesis test with confidence interval by using the tool from U.S. Census: https://www.datacenterresearch.org/data-resources/neighborhood-data/margin-of-error/Links to an external site.
U.S. Census tool tests at 90% confidence interval.
Here’s an example with data gathered from Step 1:
STEP 4. Enter your data in Final Project: Two-Sample Hypothesis Test Using U.S. Census Data and indicate your conclusion.
