Hi I just need a responce to the discussion board. I have already done my main discussion but have no time to respond to this students work. Can you help me with that? response with 2 references we are doing PICOT questions The PICOT question of interest is as follows, “In post-surgical patients (P), does the application of negative pressure therapy (I) compared to a traditional non-pressurized dressing (C) affect the rate of infection (O) in the post-operative period of up to six months (T)?” In this clinical question, the population area of interest is post-surgical patients. This question encompasses all post-surgical patients regardless of age, gender, race, or type of surgery performed. Because the intervention negative pressure wound therapy can be used for a wide variety of surgeries, this author wanted to keep the search open to all surgical patients.
Gillespie et al. (2021) states that surgical wounds are the most commonly cared for wounds in an acute care setting, and wound infections are the most common post-operative complication. It can be generalized that while there are surgeons involved in post-operative wound care, the responsibilities are often left to the bedside nurse. If the bedside nurse is not performing the actual wound care, they often must coordinate the care amongst the interdisciplinary team. Post-surgical infections, and all hospital-acquired infections, can place the patient at risk for higher rates of morbidity and mortality, increased length of stay at the hospital, and increased costs associated with hospitalization (Vieira de Souza, 2020). It is clear that post-surgical infections are unfortunately very prevalent in healthcare, making this PICOT question especially relevant.
There are a variety of nursing and medical focused databases that the nursing researcher may use. This author found the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) Ultimate database to be the most effective in producing the highest number of relevant results. Aside from this database, there is also the Ovid database, MEDLINE Ultimate database, Cochrane database, and the Nursing & Allied Health database. Using multiple databases at once for the same search will result in a thorough search that provides the nursing researcher with a high volume of scholarly work to read through and appraise (Bell & O’Donovan, 2021).
