In his first soliloquy, Richard states that he must become evil because of his physical deformity (1.1.14-26). His view of his own masculinity is made manifest in his opening speech. Further, Lady Anne shows contempt for his physical form (1.2), suggesting that he is the embodiment of political and moral corruption. Throughout the play, Richard comments on his own machinations to become crowned King of England. Write an essay in which you discuss whether fate or free will explains Richard’s evil.. The assignment should be supported by the literature (properly-cited direct quotations in MLA format from the chosen play). The paper should be THREE-AND-A-HALF to FOUR (3.5 – 4) FULL PAGES in length with an introduction, body paragraphs, the direct quotes, a conclusion, and a separate page (5th page) for the Works Cited, with ONE ENTRY.Your analytical essay will be approximately 12 – 15 paragraphs with a clear introduction, at least 10-13 body paragraphs with properly formatted, relevant direct quotations, and a clear conclusion.
You must introduce quotations properly and use MLA 9th Edition citation style in matters of form. You should have a minimum of 4, max. of 6 direct quotes from the play.
DO NOT USE OR REFERENCE ANY OUTSIDE SOURCES AT ALL.
Regarding the Works Cited page: DO NOT title it “References” or “Citations.” It is simply titled Works Cited (centered at the top of page—no bold type, no underlining, no quotation marks, no large font).
