What is ACEs
ACES are adverse childhood experiences, potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood from (0-17 years old) (CDC, 2021). About 64% of U.S. adults reported they had experienced at least one kind of ACE in their childhood (CDC, 2021). This includes experiencing abuse, neglect, violence, parental separation, or incarceration of a family member. Some examples of this include witnessing a family member attempt or die by suicide, or aspects of a child’s environment that can undermine their sense of safety, stability, and bonding (CDC, 2021).
