PART C: FACT SHEET AND RECORDED TESTIMONY, 250 POINTS, 25% OF THE FINAL GRADE, DUE 24 HOURS BEFORE WEEK 9 LIVE SESSION
The purpose of this assignment is to succinctly set forth and justify a policy position in writing and verbally. You will create a one-page fact sheet that condenses the information in your policy memo from Part B and you will deliver oral testimony to help persuade legislators to vote for or against the bill you analyzed. Because this section has only 90 minutes of live session time, you will deliver your oral testimony through a video recording that you will post to the Testimony discussion board at least 24 hours prior to the start of your assigned live session. Live session discussion time will include instructor and student questions and feedback about your testimony.
Assignment 3: Part C: Policy Fact Sheet and Testimony
POLICY FACT SHEET AND TESTIMONY
The fact sheet and oral testimony will offer opportunities for students to practice short, concise communication strategies for sharing their policy analysis with legislative, media, and/or general audiences.
Fact Sheet

A social worker must have the ability to succinctly set forth and justify a position in writing, condensing hours of research, thought, and pages of background material into a one-page fact sheet. This assignment will help you develop that skill. It will also help inform the class about the social problems and policy responses you analyzed for this assignment. Prepare a one-page fact sheet about the bill. You may use both sides of the paper, including references and contact information. It is appropriate to use lists, graphics, and headers with short, concise statements–not lengthy paragraphs.
Testimony
Audience: Legislators
Assignment type: Video recorded presentation
Reference expectations: Cite relevant sources for your argument in your oral presentation
To be effective as an advocate, a social worker must have the ability to succinctly set forth and justify a position verbally, attempting to persuade listeners to make a certain choice. The primary purpose of providing recorded testimony is to help you develop this skill.
Prepare and present testimony that would help persuade legislators to vote for or against the bill you selected for your Memo assignment. Your testimony must be written out in advance and should be of the caliber of a presentation to a legislative committee; your dress and presentation, even if recorded, should be reflective of this expectation. Deliver your testimony in a video recording in less than 3 minutes. Speak clearly, without rushing. Because this class has only 90 minutes of live session time, you will deliver your oral testimony through a video recording that you will post to the Testimony discussion board at least 24 hours prior to the start of your assigned live session. Live session discussion time will include instructor and student questions and feedback about your testimony.
