He visited and was viewed by His disciples and others for 40 days (500 persons at one time; 1 Corinthians 15:3-9), after which He was observed rising in the air and returning to heaven. In reviewing this first passage, we seen that the restoration plan, made possible by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, resulted in three major restorative aspects: Justification (Romans 5) – the pardoning of sin’s penalty of death and restoration of a relationship to God (reconciliation to and peace with God). Sanctification (Romans 6) – the “new birth” (John 3:3-12), the sharing of Christ’s death to sin’s power over us and of His resurrection power to live a new life.
