Assignment Instructions Read the following Case: Bud came to college as a freshman from a very humble background in a small town. His parents both worked and their combined incomes were only sufficient to keep his family going from week to week. They were not able to pay for his college, but through the help of loans and gifts from his local church and some scholarships, he was able to begin college. Bud is quite intelligent and has been told that he can probably do well in almost any area of study. He is attracted to the idea of being a lawyer and decides to major in pre-law. He has developed an ambition to become a successful trial lawyer, knowing that the income from that profession can be very good. Late in Bud’s junior year he meets and listens to a guest speaker on campus, a bright middle-aged lawyer who has devoted his career to assisting men and women on death row who are too poor to have good legal assistance. The guest speaker seems highly engaged, loves life, and challenges students to give themselves to something more than just making money, but to find what it is in life that they “can’t do!” This encounter and his thoughts and prayers regarding it in the weeks that follow leaves Bud, in a deep state of soul-searching about his future and his plans for his life work. He decides to go to a good friend and ask for advice about his vocation. You are Bud’s friend, and you have just been reading about “vocation” as it relates to Christian Faith and Life. You also read about vocation in One.Life. Making use of those resources, write a well-developed letter to Bud that addresses his issues, and post it as your initial post in the discussion forum.
