Nuclear Medicine Department Design Project
You are tasked with designing a new Nuclear Medicine Department for an outpatient imaging center. The architect and engineer are relying on your knowledge and training in nuclear medicine to help determine the location of key functional areas. Below is a list of the areas that need to be included in your department blueprints: • Reception/Check-in Desk
• Waiting Room
• Injection Rooms/Areas
• Restrooms
• 2 Gamma Camera Rooms (at least one should be a SPECT/CT)
• 1 PET/CT Scanner Room
• Thyroid Uptake Probe Area
• Control Rooms
• Hot Lab
• Waste Area
• Physician Reading Room
*Note: some of these areas may be combined to save space at your discretion; any combined areas must be labeled accordingly on your blueprints. You may include other areas not listed if desired.
In addition to the required areas above, your blueprints must make note of the following:
• Any windows or doorways (including the direction the door opens)
• Radiation Safety signage
• Any type of shielding in the walls/doors/windows • Door access devices to restricted areas (code lock, swipe badge, etc.)
