• To create a genogram in GenoPro.com:
o Download the free version or one that the instructor has set up using the academic evaluation key.
o Follow the information and examples provided at
GenoPro.com/genogram.
• To create a genogram in Word:
o Open a word document, change layout orientation to landscape, click “Insert”.
o From here you can explore Shapes or Smart Art.

document when you click the document. You can click the document to keep adding that shape until you have the number you want. You can insert a text box into the shape to label it. You can bring in the sides to reduce its size.
▪ With Smart Art: click on “Hierarchy” on the left side of the window choose the “Circle Picture Hierarchy”. Right-click to add additional circles. To change a circle into a square, right-click on the circle, choose “Change Shape” and select a square. You can connect new circles and squares by right-clicking, choose “Add Shape,” select a line, click to add it to the document, then drag it where you need it.
▪ To add color: right-click and change the fill color.

• To create and submit a hand-drawn genogram:
o Take a piece of paper and draw out your genogram.
o You can submit it by either taking a picture with your camera or phoneor scanning it and saving it to your desktop.
o You can then drag and drop it into the assignment.
• Review this video on genograms which provides an explanation of what they are.
Requirements:
Use this SAMPLE information to create your practice genogram. Your genogram should include the following:
• Grandparents on Father’s side
o Grandmother is from Italy and deceased
o Grandfather is from Italy and deceased
• Grandparents on Mother’s side
o Grandmother is from Ireland and deceased
o Grandfather is from Italy and deceased
• Distinguish between countries by color (red: Italy, green, Ireland)
• Include Father and Mother married in 1945 and color the percentage
• Include “you” and one sister and brother and color the percentage (how much Italian and Ireland based on parents).
Be sure to read the criteria below by which your work will be evaluated before you write and again after you write.
