You will be required to write a written response for each category (short story, poetry, and play) of the literature readings in this course. The literature readings are defined as the short stories, poems, and plays we read from the textbooks. The chapter readings associated with the discussion posts are a separate assignment. Your response paper should be 800-1000 words. Your response can be longer than 850 words, but it should not be shorter than 600 words. This translates to 4 double spaced pages. You may use first person in the responses (e.g., “I”, “me”), and the tone can be informal. These are low-stakes assignments, meaning you are not required to conduct research or formulate a thesis statement for each response; rather, the focus should be on reasoning through understanding the readings. Here are some sample questions for you to consider as you write your responses:
What was the most challenging aspect of the reading? What did you have trouble understanding? If you connected with the reading, what aspect of the material did you connect with?
What’s something about the reading that will stay with you?
Think of this assignment as a reading log. Your response journal should record your thoughts, feelings, and impressions with the works you choose to write on. The deadlines are as follows:

Follow MLA style format. This means:Use double spacing (2.0)
Include your name, the class number, my name, and the date in the upper left-hand side of the top of the first page
A header with a page number and your last name
