In an essay of approximately five pages, develop a series of paragra

Assignment:
In an essay of approximately five pages, develop a series of paragraphs advancing a thesis claim about how (in what various ways) Jim O’Connell’s work with the Program as reported on by Tracy Kidder in “‘You Have to Learn to Listen to These Patients’” AND how Mckenzie Trahan’s experiences as reported on by Gale Holland et al. in “Pregnant and Living in a Tent in Hollywood: Meet Mckenzie” expose the complexity of social responsibility.
Additional Guidelines: To begin, reflect upon Inspector Goole’s final comments. With what task does Goole assign us? Consider what is involved with being “responsible for each other.”
What are the “different elements” of social responsibility (“complex,” def. 2 a.)? How are they “complicated,” “intricate,” difficult to examine or “disentangle,” and in what ways do O’Connell’s work AND Trahan’s experiences expose them (“complex,” def. 2 a.)?
In the introductory section, concisely contextualize the texts by Kidder and by Holland et al. Follow this with a formal thesis claim. Remember, the thesis claim, which controls the content of the essay, must respond to the prompt’s demands and establish what, how, and why.
Incorporate clear, strong analysis of textual evidence in each of the three to four supporting paragraphs. Your thoughtful discussion of this evidence will fully develop topic sentence claims and advance the thesis. Body paragraphs must begin with topic sentence claims that force analysis. Although all body paragraphs must begin with topic sentence claims that force analysis, the development of that topic sentence should vary in structure.
Do not compose a conclusion for the essay. Instead, restate the thesis claim.
In the essay, you are not required to use information from An Inspector Calls.
Your essay of approximately five pages in length must be prepared according to MLA formatting and documentation guidelines. This means you will incorporate quotations and cite them correctly. You also need to attach a documentation page that identifies all the sources you have used for your essay.
Other than “‘You’ve Got to Learn to Listen to These Patients,’” “Pregnant and Living in a Tent in Hollywood: Meet Mckenzie,” An Inspector Calls, and the OED, do not utilize any additional outside resources.
Audience: The readers of your essay have watched An Inspector Calls but are unfamiliar with the articles by Kidder and Holland et al.
