Using Gibbs reflective model – Reflect on an experience or event that happed to you during your placement in the hospital
the situation is ( I was shadowing the Registrar doctor and the consultant in the morning rounds and was reviewing the patient’s files and they were talking about this 1 year old girl that whose parents are immigrants that have been in the hospital for her multiple chest infections recently and now they are reviewing the results of the tests and she is diagnosed with PCD ( congenital disease common in kids when their parents are relatives that’s a risk factor)
so the registrar and the consultant were discussing how they would take a family history from them and break the news and discuss the nature of the disease with them and that it’s common in populations where the parents are relatives and grandparents are relatives too so I want to reflect on
1. how professional was the consultant in breaking the news
2. and how careful she was when she answered their question about the risk factors(them being relatives which could be sensitive in some cultures ) and to not judge or make them feel uncomfortable
3. say that I learned from this made me want to be open-minded, not judgmental and consider people’s feelings in such sensitive topics, especially when working with different cultures
please no repetition and give each part of the Gibbs cycle its meaning don’t mix or put similar points
description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion action plan
