Post Requirements
This assignment requires two posts, each completed individually. Before you write your first post, you will need to check to see which sections have already been claimed by other students. Also, you may choose to utilize generative AI to help develop your understanding of this article. To get started, utilize the prompt found in the “AI to Help Understand Challenging Texts” tab on the Using AI Responsibly page.
First Post – Due Wednesday:
Choose one of the above sections (i.e., Introduction, Environmental Factors, etc.) to read. I suggest you make a placeholder post to reserve your chosen section. Be sure to check the discussion board to ensure you are not making a duplicate post!
Title your post with the section you chose to read.
Explain three major points of your section of the article (each point should be 3-5 sentences; bullet-point format is fine).
List and define at least two vocabulary words or phrases from the section you read. These can be any words/phrases that you didn’t know the meaning of or generally challenging terminology. These words should be relevant to the three major points listed above.
Find a line/concept (“golden line”) within your section of the article that you found interesting, resonated with you, or changed your thinking on this topic (you may copy/paste the text into your discussion post). In 4-5 sentences, explain the significance of your selection and how it relates to anything you’ve learned in this unit.
Based on the reading of your section, what are two questions you have? These may be something you need clarification on, follow-up questions, questions about the evidence, or broader questions about the article. Try to avoid posing questions that can be answered with a simple search.
Note: If you used AI in some way, please provide an appropriate citation.
Second Post – Due Saturday
Choose one of your peers to respond to and address the following prompts:
First, read the section of the article your classmate chose and evaluate the three major points your peer wrote about. If you agree with your peer’s three major points, provide one additional point or detail you can add to strengthen your peer’s summary. If you find any one of your peer’s three major points contains any inaccuracies, identify the point of disagreement and provide a revision.
Answer one of your classmate’s questions using a reliable source. This may require you to do some outside research. Remember to cite all sources fully, including in-text citations and a full reference list at the end, for full credit. If you only consulted the reading, you must provide citations for the article.
