The United States Constitution is widely known across the nation and our world. However, although not recognized or thought of, treaties are the supreme law of the land. From a social work perspective apply the systems theory to the following points.
From an ethical standpoint, and review of the US legal system, critically think about what should be considered when reviewing the issues of water rights and land treaties for Indigenous People.
Critically assess and discuss the impact that water usage and land rights have on the Indigenous Native American people.
Historically, the view was a necessity to civilize the “Indian”. Currently, the effects of those views reflect inequitable social rights and along with social and health disparities. Critically assess and discuss the impact of applying linear perspectives and importance of integrating circular approaches to Indigenous populations?
Place yourself as being in the center of an imaginary circle watching and listening to the stories and the promises. Imagine as you are sitting in that circle, you are the social worker advocating for rights and ethical treatment of systemic justice. Share potential approaches that could be made to address the issues of broken treaties while working toward goals for healing the Indigenous Population.
Who would you involve in advocacy efforts and how would you envision building toward and carrying out the goals to provide healing the Indigenous People?
