Using the lens of diversity consciousness and sociocultural theory, we can come to
better realize the important relationships between thoughts and actions both in our
personal and professional lives. In actuality, there is a clear relationship between
diversity consciousness and success that can be unveiled through seeing such
relationships.
The presented scenarios provide an opportunity to assess how diversity skills, informed
by diversity consciousness and sociocultural theory, can best be applied to determine
the best course of actions.
Instructions:
Referring to the topics from this week’s content, select two of the following three
scenarios and prepare answers to questions #1-#3 related to each of them:
1. Case Study One: Ligua
o Question 1: If Ligua wants to be successful, does she have to buy into a work
culture that values independence and individual accomplishments? Explain
o Question 2: How could the work setting be changed to accommodate
individuals who may feel more comfortable in a group-oriented atmosphere?
o Question 3: What diversity skills might Ligua work on developing to help her
with these conflicts? Explain.
2. Case Study Two: Mary
o Question 1: If you were in Mary’s situation, how would you view the class and
the professor?
o Question 2: If you were in Mary’s situation, what would you say to your
classmates who you feel are being unfair to the professor?

o Question 3: Which diversity skills do Mary’s classmates need to develop in
order to be more successful in this class? Explain.
3. Case Study Three: Michael
o Question 1: Do you think Michael should approve Dennis’s request? Can
this request be justified given company policy?
o Question 2: If Dennis is allowed to do this, should the company treat all other
employees who have a very close friend the same?
o Question 3: Dealing with Dennis’s request will require Michael to use a
number of diversity skills. In this situation, which of Michael’s diversity skills
do you think will be the most critical? Why?
Requirements:
Each Case Study response (all three questions associated with each case) should be a
minimum of 500 words (total minimum 1,000 words) and prepared narrative, paragraph
format in a third person consultant point-of-view. Make sure to use at least one peer
reviewed journal article at a minimum to support your contention for each case
(minimum total of 2 sources).
Be sure to read the criteria below by which your work will be evaluated before
you write and again after you write.
