This is an assessment where you will be a nurse leading an advocacy action team to advocate for population health policy change. You will explore the role of the nurse advocating for a policy proposal related to obesity levels in Miami due to limited income and the inability to buy healthy food. The paper must follow the template i have attached. The instructions show the questions that must be answered according to the rubric. We have to choose a Social determinant of health and at risk population which i already chose in a previous assignment.
Here is what i chose from my previous assignment:
One of the most affected populations includes low-income communities. They face disproportionate rates of obesity due to limited access to healthy food options. A key social determinant of health exacerbating this issue is food insecurity, where residents lack consistent access to nutritious and affordable food. In many of these neighborhoods, grocery stores offering fresh produce are scarce, leading residents to rely on convenience stores and fast-food outlets with less healthy options. To address this, policy changes should focus on increasing access to healthy foods. The policy change I would implement is creating subsidies or vouchers for healthy food purchases. This can make nutritious options more affordable for low-income individuals and families. By addressing the social determinant of food insecurity through these policy changes, efforts to combat obesity in Miami-Dade’s at-risk populations can be more effective and equitable. This initiative would improve access to healthy foods and also promote community engagement in addressing health disparities.
