Sarah tells Teri that she is really enjoying her career in the company. She feels that she has learned a lot and has positively impacted the company and the people in it. Teri, as the experienced HRM professional, assures Sarah that there will be plenty of challenges and opportunities for growth and helping the organization and all stakeholders moving forward.
From a dashboard to a scorecard, metrics to analytics, big data is a powerful tool that can create great insights that are invaluable to an organization. The HRM professional must consider the right data for decision making. While it is unlikely the HRM professional in the current environment will need to perform complex numerical calculations, they nonetheless must know what the numbers mean and how to get them. They must be able to effectively communicate the organization’s needs to vendors. Additionally, strong critical analysis skills and perspective are necessary to understand the data, make decisions and effectively convey recommendations to stakeholders.

Have your views evolved? How important is data to decision making in human resources? What sort of data? Do the decisions begin and end with data or is critical analysis and perspective important? What is the value of storytelling in conveying your decisions, opinions, and recommendations?
