First, I will give you the relevant explanations. I want an essay on the topic of perfectionist, firstly I need a three-page draft and secondly I want a full revised essay. which should include the introduction part (along with the sentence hook and thesis) along with three supporting bodies (along with the introduction part, supporting synthesis and conclusion) and the conclusion part (along with the concluding hook). Below I wrote the explanation of the teacher.
What is a first draft? It is a TYPED work that has a beginning, a middle, and an end. The essay (story) is basically written down. Next week, you will have a chance to re-write. That is part of the process of writing. You will get a chance to improve the description. Cut unnecessary words. Maybe add dialogue.
Soon, it will be time to share the draft with other writers who can comment on it. (And share the draft with the instructor who will assign points for effort.)
The essay should be the equivalent of 3 to 4 pages of a Word doc, double spaced.
I have read many of your first drafts! Many of you want to merely tell me your thoughts, your deep philosophical concerns, your knowledge of the world: BUT YOU ARE NOT TELLING A STORY. A NARRATIVE ESSAY IS A STORY. What is a story? Something happened to you. You went through some event(s). You came through better or worse. You should have learned something which the reader will understand by reading your STORY. Your STORY. You have to focus on events, usually with conflict, to tell a story. I put a student essay from the past in this Module as an example.
You cannot get a good grade unless your essay is a NARRATIVE ESSAY!!!
Some time this week you MUST submit your Narrative Essay. This is the polished, proofread draft. You have gone through the process of writing: the idea, the first draft, and the final draft. Of course, an essay is rarely finished; you could work on improving it for many more drafts. But time allows only so much work can be done so that we can go on to the next project.
Make sure you submit the final draft by the due date.
As you re-write this week, you might look for places for better detail. Try to be specific when you can. For example, instead of saying “I went to the store” say “I drove to Vons.” Try to use dialogue. Don’t tell the reader what someone said; rather, show the reader the dialogue. It makes the essay come alive, often. Of course, work on making the meaning understandable and proofread for errors.
I expect you to rewrite the beginning of the essay to make it so strong that a reader will want to read the rest of the essay. Students who do not re-write the beginnings, I suppose, think that their original draft is strong enough: I WILL BE THE JUDGE OF THAT. You will lose points if the beginning is not strong and if I see no effort to re-write which is more than adding a sentence or two or changing a word or two. T.S. Eliot re-wrote! You should, too.
