1st Lesson plan for preschoolers- Your lesson plan can be based on a Read Aloud, Story Telling with finger-puppets, or any other means of sharing a story with your student(s).
2) lesson plan is based on a big book – it can be any big book for preschoolers. The document for you to fill out is called “2nd language and Literacy”In this 2nd Language and Literacy Lesson, another Read Aloud can be done using a different story or the same story that has already been read to your student-participant. Repeating a Read Aloud story is highly encouraged for helping emergent readers have more opportunities to “re-tell” a story, or a part of a story. Repeating a story can also help emergent readers practice Reading Readiness skills (i.e., Concepts of Print) along with laying the foundation for developing an emergent reader’s Phonemic Awareness.
One of the best ways to develop both Reading Readiness skills and Phonemic Awareness, is through the use of Big Books.
Sharing a Big Book with emergent readers is an excellent way to do a Read Aloud that can be more interactive. Big Books are often used as a means of performing a “Shared Reading”. At the Pre-K, T-K and Kindergarten levels, Big Books can be based on a story and/or on popular children’s songs and chants. Repetitive/patterned text or text that are song-based can help to lay the foundation for developing a child’s phonemic awareness which is all a part of Reading Readiness.
